Located in Historic Old San Juan between San Francisco and La Luna streets, “La Barrandilla” as it’s locally known is the only town square not dedicated to a saint or historical figure. The square was buried under concrete and asphalt for over 80 years and the decision to restore it to its original specifications was made after a city worker unearthed one of its original steps.
Challenges
→ Re-construction of the old San Francisco square to its original condition as originally constructed in the Spanish Era.
→ Cast in Place Concrete Piles & Pre-Cast Retaining wall.
→ Preservation and restoration of historical “Barrandilla” steps.
→ Construction of the original stair railings in custom cast-bronze.
→ Installation of architectural Italian and Spanish urban furniture.
→ Custom Architectural Finishes including Cast Stone wall furring, Custom Argamasa & Slate floor finishes and granite curbs among other finishes.
→ Work also includes substantial electrical and telephone improvements.
