Located in Historic Old San Juan’s Luna street, this building, as well as almost every other building on the city were built between the 16th and 17th century. The project consists on the Restoration of an 18,000 ft² historical building which housed the first Cinema in San Juan, to become the Carlos Albizu University Administrative Building.
Challenges
→ Due to their architectural value and antiquity, these buildings form part of the San Juan National Historic Site and the National Register of Historic Places. As such when restoring these types of buildings, contractors have to obtain special construction permits and follow very strict guidelines for historic restoration.
→ Work includes Historical Elements Restoration, Construction of a new Amphitheater, Administrative Offices, Mayor Electrical and Mechanical Work.
→ Replacing and installing wooden support beams following materials and construction techniques used in that era.
→ Preservation and restoration of original flooring and tiles.
→ Construction and restoration of stair railings.
